Wow! Who would've thought that it's already the second week of our internship?
Honestly, I was shocked when I took a look at my calendar this morning and saw that it's already Friday. Well anyway, now I'm here for another blog about my experiences in our internship.
Basically, what we have done this week is by no means different from last week. It's all document-filing, reproducing important memos, jotting down important immigration details, and making phone calls.
I'm really learning a lot in this internship. Aside from the things I learn while observing the immigration officers at work, I also get a lot of learnings from talking to our superiors in the office. There was a time when I talked to an immigration officer and he told me all about the different cases he encountered in his duty as an IO. He said that the Immigration office is really strict in receiving foreigners to our country. The office has to know all about the details of their travel such as where they will live while they're here in the Philippines, and they are also required to have a round trip ticket back to their country. These are all meticulously required from the aliens to prevent them from being a liability to our country. He said that there were a lot of instances where he actually sent foreigners back to their home country because they failed to comply with the requirements.
On the other hand, I also learned the other side of the Immigration procedures, that in the departure area. In this area, the Bureau is stricter to the Filipinos planning to go outside the country. I have actually had an experience with this just earlier today. Someone kept calling the office to ask about a faxed document. Apparently, there was a situation where a passenger was off-loaded because she did not meet the requirements needed for her to be allowed to go abroad. Off-loaded, meaning, she was not allowed to board the plane. It was really tragic since she already bought her tickets and all.
What is really fun here, though, is that I get to meet new friends. They are our fellow trainees from the University of San Carlos. They are really friendly and we got along really well. We get to eat lunch together and talk about our experiences in our internship, since we are assigned in two different offices.
Generally, this week has been really fun, as always. People are really friendly and they are thoughtful and caring. And as always, I'm looking forward to the rest of the weeks I'll spend with them. :)
